How was it created
Initial Prototype
The initial prototype was fully 3D printed to test the feasibility of the system to print on the side of the cake without touching the surface
A 3D printed 6 inch cake was created as a model to test on.
Problems found:
- Limited to only 1 size of cake
- Difficult to keep EVEBOT in a consistent level when printing
2nd Prototype
After confirming the feasibility of the concept in the initial prototype, some improvements were made base on flaws found in the initial prototype.
Changes made:
- A new acrylic base plate is created with holes to cater for different size cakes
- A new bendable guide ruler is created with top and bottom alignment guides to keep the EVEBOT levelled when printing
Problem found:
- The corner of the bendable guide ruler can easily pop out of the acrylic base
3rd Prototype
Further enhancement has been made that allows this system to be used on different cakes with different height.
Changes made:
- Improved base plate hole layout to resolve the corner of the ruler from popping out
- Redesign bendable guide ruler to cater for different cake height
- Redesign top and bottom alignment guides on the bendable guide ruler to ensure guidance for the different heights
Problem found:
- Top layer of the bendable guide ruler do not maintain the same curvature
Final Prototype
Minor changes are made to the previous prototype to solve some issues found during testing.
Changes made:
- Increase the side structural support of the bendable guide ruler to ensure curvature remain consistent
